Read from February 18 to March 02, 2010 — I own a copy

I read another of Nathan's books, The Waitress, and didn't particular care for that one. I bought The Nanny because I read most of Kinsella's books and was looking for something new and I wanted to know if The Nanny would be different from The Waitress.

It's not.

The problems I had with The Waitress are in The Nanny. There's a lot of telling when showing would be better. Even a short scene or two would add more emotion to what should have been an emotional scene. There were also a lot more characters. They get dumped on you before you get a chance to know the few existing characters.

The biggest problem I had was that new things just seemed to come up with very little building or foreshadowing. Plots came out of nowhere like the one involving the wife, parents were put in hospital, characters like Grandma came and went and added nothing.

I would have given it a one star but The Nanny just like The Waitress does pick up along the way. However, it then goes back to a slump.

Goodbye Melissa Nathan. I'm not reading anymore of your work.
