I read this on a long roadtrip, and I think that helped - looking around at the landscape, I was reminded that I was reading a book. Spoils the creep factor a bit. This is the story of the assistant to a 19th century Monstrumologist (scientist of the study and hunting of monsters). This first volume of the series focuses on anthropophagi, creatures mentioned in Shakespeare and Marco Polo. Pretty enthralling, and I only had to yell out "Yuck!" three times. In fact, I keep being surprised at how everyone talks about the gross factor and suggests this for 8th grade and up. It didn't seem that bad to me. Or maybe I just can handle more than I think I can. I think I could booktalk this down to 7th. Couldn't I???
