Capote is able to create a nice dramatic tension in the beginning of the story, but towards the middle it begins to flutter along the borders of tedium. Its as if Capote, because he took the trouble to track down a detail, thought it added necessarily added something valueable. The ending just sort of fizzles out to nothing suprising or interesting. This defintely peaks near the discovery of the murder, and I think it would have probably made an excellent novella if the last two thirds were replaced with a much more brief description of the capture, incarceration, and explanation of the tragically misguided motive.
