really liked it
bookshelves: historical-fiction

From what I heard about the movie, I expected this book to be much more dark. I was pleasantly surprised to find some of the parts satirical- sort of reminded me of Huck Finn, although only because of the characters and not because of the speaker being tongue-in-cheek. I loved the story and the characters. I don't think I'll watch the movie because I'd like not to spoil the author's vivid descriptions.

Eliza Yeah, I do not recommend the movie. It was dreary. Let me know if you want me to bring books when I visit you in PA. I have a bunch to take to the used book store. Some are good :)
