This book is exceptional! I would not be able to do justice to the writing if I tried to summarize the 117 chapters (or 1243 pp.) I can see how this book was very popular when it was first released in a serial formal from August 1844 to January 1846. And continued to be republished many times throughout the century. I read the book in 5 days. I could not put the book down and it repeatedly surprised me.

Carol What are you liking about the book? It is one of my favorites.

Carol I never read it but loved the 2002 film with Richard Harris and James Caviezel. As I know the movie is never as good as the book, I was surprised how different it was. I am reading the Pengiun edition which I usually prefer but I am also listening to Blackstone's audiobook with John Lee beautiful voice. The audio version, unabridged, differs from the Penguin book. Each sentence is rich and beautiful, love it. I always loved the relationship between Dantes and Abbe. Richard Harris in the film was great. Also I thought it was a wonderful love story.

Carol I seen the 2002 movie also and it does weer from the book quite a bit. I love Dumas anyway I have read everything he wrote.
