Waow.
i feel sorry for the one who wont read it and still think it's success is just hype. Pure classic, rich without being a burden, long but fluid and diverse, trully a pleasure of reading.

Jayaprakash Satyamurthy Did you read THE SAVAGE DETECTIVES? It put me off Bolano completely.

Saliotthomas Actualy, your short review put me off too and for a while i would not get close to Bolano.
But this book has nothing pretentious about it, not the attitude you point out in savage(which is something i hate in lit, and found profusely in Hesse steppenwolf, ho i'm so this and oh i'm so that, while doing fuck all, thanks)
This is classic jaya, pure well construct piece of writing. a bloody galaxi well balance, like a piece of music .

Jayaprakash Satyamurthy Well, I find that people who like SAVAGE often don't like 2666 and vice-versa, so this gives me reason to try this novel out.

Perhaps you could give SAVAGE a try anyway? I'd be curious to see if you agree with my impressions.
