I have to give this book four stars because it really is well written. But, I did not always find it an enjoyable book to read. It's very dark and depressing. I had no idea what the book was about when I picked it up. It is a psychological children's book, but the depth of this book would go way over a child's head. It's more of a children's book made for an adult's eyes. I do like the way the author put the real fairy tales at the end and explained how they tied in to his story.

The story itself is about loss, grief, and finding out who you are in a terribly wicked world. It does have it merits. It would be a great book to read and discuss in college. But, it is not what I would call a "fun read." It does deserve four stars. Lots of imagination, though very dark.
