Awesome; hands down the best vampire (werewolf, etc.) story I've read since The Historian, which remains for me the ur-vampire novel. I love love love the world-building and would love a novel of backstory on the Voodoo Wars. My only real complaint is the sexual connection between the eponymous heroine and her pet vampire (and some of McKinley's vocabulary choices - seriously, just stick with 'cool' for 'cool'). I recognize that part of my boredom with this is due to massive oversaturation with crappy vampire love stories (the Sookie Stackhouses, Twilight) which all appear to be ripping off Buffy, and that Sunshine came well before the current trend, but my irritation remains. Because honestly, corpses = gross. How has no one written a novel about a sexy epidemiologist fighting the strange new STDs you can catch from your local village vampire bicycle? That would be awesome.
