Winnie, the heroine of Thirteen, has finally become a teenager. (There are other books in this series, Eleven and Twelve, and all of them represent one month in Winnie's life for the given year.) This year she has many life changing experiences including her first kiss, learning to resolve conflicts with her boyfriend Lars and the birth of her little sister Magnolia. This books deals with family issues and discusses Winnie's older sister going to college, her 6 year old brother growing up and her mother's pregnancy. It touches other emotional issues including delving into boy/girl relationships and supporting a friend who is sick with leukemia. It's a coming of age book that offers insight into girls that are dealing with a lot of different issues at a very critical time in their lives.
