** spoiler alert ** WOW. i seriously could not put this book down. some parts were like a car accident-i felt like i should turn away, but just couldn't stop staring. this poor 13 girl (Yasira) wanted desperately for someone to love her, and would take it almost any way she could get it. in the beginning, her mother sends her to live with her strict arabian father, because the mother's boyfriend "likes" 13 year old Yasira. between the difficult adjustment of living with her father and all his rules, babysitting the boy next door whose father does things with the girl no man should do, this girl suffers all kinds of abuse-physical, sexual, emotional.....she finds couple in the neighborhood who takes care of Yasira, first whenever she sees her outside, then takes Yasira into her home when her father begins hitting her as punishment, leaving bruises.
Watching how all the characters in the book fight and come together, i felt like i lived in their neighborhood. I will be looking for more by Erian! A+
