Liam excels at one thing in life, and that is fantastically, unwaveringly screwing everything up. At school, with girls, at home. Eventually, his father has had enough, and intends to send him off to live with his grandparents. His mother offers him a reprieve in the form of his Uncle Pete, whom Liam hasn't see in years. And while a trailer with his glam rock, cross-dressing uncle is about the last place he wants to be, Nevada with his grandparents is really the last place he wants to be.

He is determined to begin again in Pineville, assuring himself that he will be unpopular. Only try as he might, he fails at this too. Every brilliant scheme turns against him, even ones he's sure are foolproof. He begins to lose all hope, but amidst all the chaos, he's learning. All he needs is to notice.
