I liked this book because the main character Pei, is strong and don't let sad things get to her. When she was a little girl she was abandoned by her father to work in a factory. Even though she cried she still worked in the factory and accepted that she will be living in it from now on. I thought that she was actually lucky because all the girls that worked with her in the factory were very nice to her and the lady Auntie Yee that let her stay in the girls house was very nice to her too. When Pei got older she moved to work in a real factory. The people there weren't very nice. Pei had to work long hours, but one day her and the factory workers went on strike. I thought that it was very sad and unfair that Pei's friend got killed during the strike. They worked long hours and just wanted sometime to rest.
