The tough thing about writing a review of a book you read a long time ago is that you cannot remember enough of what you read to do justice to the book. The positive thing is that you can remember only that which mostly impacted you and your life. In "The Analects" some things that came across to me were: the power of ritual and cultural traditions as a means to keeping youthful impetuous in line, and the characteristics of a great leader, teacher, and/or friend. I don’t give this book another star because of the way, in keeping with tradition, it treats women and their role and place in the social schemes of the time. In that respect, I think the ideas are outdated and traditional ritual makes absolutely no sense.
