Not poorly written, however, lacking in style, if not substance, compared to Frank Herbert's original work, Dune. In this story, Paul's life is abstracted to an interstellar realm and so gritty descriptions of the planet he chooses to inhabit (Arrakis) are passed over in favor of a more abstract, plot-oriented story. I do miss the descriptions of the planet and Fedaykin (there is only one instance of a sandworm being ridden, and it's not very interesting). The plot tends to skip around a lot, as well.
