Perfectly told story, in reverse, of how a 30 something year old man finds himself living as a submissive to a dominatrix in San Francisco. To matter-of-factly provide details that you know will appall many readers is not that hard a trick. Elliott's skill is to draw you into what comes to seem an inevitable progression of experiences, with the reverse narrative providing you what amounts to a strange sort of foreknowledge of his past.
