I enjoyed this novel for its sheer scope and the fact that it's endlessly entertaining. I also liked the fact that it doesn't feel too polished - it's a bit raw and even flabby, as though Bulgakov was primarily concerned with giving free rein to his imagination. The story is riotous and comes and goes between reality/unreality very freely - in fact, it doesn't really respect the boundary between them at all.
