Good old-fashioned story telling. I listened to this British novel over the course of several trips down to Portland. It's a very entertaining story about Spider (the magical story telling god) and his fight against Tiger (from whom he stole the tales of the world). Of course, the reader knows nothing of this backdrop as he follows the ordinary modern day life of Charlie who discovers that his brother is a minor god. Hilarity and tragedy ensue as often happens when mortals and immortals interact. If I were a kid (and perhaps I still am) this would be the perfect bedtime story.
