What a delightful surprise this book was! Through letters the author shares the story of the German Occupation of the Channel Islands through the eyes of the individuals who lived through it. Juliet, a writer and protagonist, is just the type of witty heroine I adore. After hearing about this unique literary society, Juliet eventually decides to write a book about the struggles of the townspeople on this small island. She ends up with lifelong friends and a new life for herself. And this is one of those rare occasions where I don't mind a happy ending.
