it was amazing
bookshelves: picture-books

I love this book! Author and illustrator Ian Falconer introduces readers to little Olivia an enchanting pig who is a typical 4 or 5 year old. She finds fun in everything and speaks her mind. I love the way Falconer uses subtle language in the text but yet creates an amusing story about the day in the life with Olivia. His black and white with accents of red illustrations add to the story and speak for themselves. Young children can see themselves in Olivia whether it’s dressing up, being annoyed with her little brother or imagining themselves as performers on the stage. I would use this book with young students and discuss what characteristic of Olivia they can compare to themselves. If you enjoy Kevin Henkes mice characters especially Lilly then you'll also enjoy Olivia.
