Sweet and satisfying, though not as enchanting or interesting as the first. If Bradley is really after writing an old-school British sleuth caper, he needs to beef up the mystery lest his characters devolve into caricatures. He is clearly after a dual audience: those of us enamored of the clever emotional-mystery entanglements of Kate Atkinson and the Harry Potter set whose youth and world-weary sophistication have deprived them of Encyclopedia Brown. His quirky-smart heroine holds us in her sway; I hope in future adventures Flavia is given puzzles to solve that are equal to and challenge her abilities. She and her fans- old and young- deserve a thicker plot.

Chris I felt the same way, Julie. I hear his third one is coming out soon. I'll try that and see if number 2 was just a fluke. If not, he's lost me as a reader. But I do love that spunky Flavia!
