This book is an Oprah pick, and like the rest of America, when Oprah picks a book I take notice. It is unusual for Oprah to pick a chick lit book. Thus, I thought, how can it be bad?

I enjoyed this book. As an Italian, I can relate to these characters on a very personal level. The supporting cast is rich and funny and enjoyable.

My issue, however, is with Valentine. I wish she were a bit more fleshed out and a bit more likable. Her self-pitying insecurities really took a lot of the fun out of a book that should have been like pink cupcakes. And speaking of cupcakes. . . there really wasn't enough fashion in this book! Valentine is a shoe designer and we hardly heard talk of those designs. The descriptions that were the most fun were about the packaging the shoes came in! I really thought this was a loss.

Overall, though, people who like chick lit will like this book. A fun, easy, beach-y read.
