Jaxon - as a child, Jaxx became the object of an insane coworker/ special ops soldier of her father. He kills all people important to Jaxx - her family, her foster family, a friend... and stays unfound into Jaxx's adulthood.

Lucien - ancient of all ancients - we get a bit of his history, of the lost battles in the 1400s, of meeting Jesus - who offered him peace & hope for his brother, of how he kept his brother from turning by setting himself as the target so that his brother would come for him, for centuries, until he found his lifemate, and of his love for Jaxx - so different from what he expected, and of his deep joy to feel.

And he accepts Jaxon as no other Carpathian lifemates of humans... so that she joins him as he fights vampires, and her nemisis...
