Really remarkable book. Impressionistic. Beautifully written. Uses Thomas Cromwell as an archetype for the birth of Modern Man. Do yourself a favor and read, at least, the Wikipedia entries for Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn before reading, unless you really know this stuff already. Mantel assumes you do.
