I just finished listening to this book. I listened out of order due to my loosing part of the first disc’s audio and had to read it. In this story Sookie is basically dumped by Bill and he leaves to work on his super secret project. About a month into his leaving, Eric shows up at her house to demand what Bill had been working on. He informs her, against his will that Bill was trying to pension Sookie off. Sookie, finding out that Bill has strayed and doesn’t have the decency to tell her in person, is hurt. Eric needs her to help rescue Bill, if he is still alive, and is sending a representative. Alcide is introduced as a Were from Shreveport and off to Jackson they go. They go to Club Dead, where Sookie meets up with Alcide’s ex and has some unpleasant experiences. The next day they find a body of a dead Were in the closet and dispose of it. They go to Club Dead again, with Eric in disguise. Through much drama, Sookie is staked and is taken to the King of Mississippi’s house. With some healing (help from the vampires) and taking Eric’s blood (which excites him a great deal) Sookie is feeling much stronger. Bubba shows up and says that Bill is on the premises. Sookie stakes a vampire and smuggles Bill out. Many difficulties ensue after this, and Sookie in the end exasperated by vampires revokes their invitations. It was a great read and introduces Bill as something besides what he has been in the past.
