I enjoyed the first half of this book, which gave a good view of John's early days in school up to the Beatle's early days in Hamburg and first visits to the US. After that, it bogged down for me a bit. I felt that the author jumped around in the time a bit too much, which was disconcerting. He also seemed to obsess too much on whether or not John wanted to sleep with his mother or whether he did sleep with Brian. And the ending was depressing...but we knew that.
