Vampirates by Justin Somper

This is the story of a set of 14 year old twins; Conner and Grace Tempest who live happily with their father, the caretaker of a lighthouse on the coast of Australia in the year 2505. Everything changes when their father dies and leaves the twins penniless and headed for an orphanage. Then Conner and Grace decide to take their father’s ship out on the open seas and head off to seek their fortunes. Not long after they are at sea they encounter a terrible storm and their ship is capsized throwing the twins into the sea. Each twin is rescued by a different ship. Conner is rescued by the Diablo a pirate ship who is lead by Captain Wrathe. Grace is pulled onto a different ship that is inhabited by vampires.
Connor loves his life on the pirate ship where he is assigned chores, learns to sword fight and goes on his first raid.
Meanwhile life for Grace on her ship is completely different. Grace is locked in a luxurious room and is given mysterious food that tastes delicious but makes her go to sleep.

Throughout the entire book Conner is hoping that his sister is still alive and hears the voice of their dead father telling him that Grace needs help.
Grace is given a magic mirror from the vampirates so that she can see her brother but when she asked them to take her to him they refuse.
Will Grace and Conner reconnect? What plans to the vampirates have for Grace? Will Conner decide to stay on the Diablo and live his life out as a pirate?
