A delightful early chapter book about Mercy Watson, the "porcine wonder" who inadvertently saves her family/owners (whose bed is about to fall through a hole in the floor) through her enthusiasm to find some hot buttered toast for breakfast. How on earth does that happen, you may wonder? The fun of this story is in the finding out, in the clever absurdity of how it all fits together :-) While I wasn't perhaps as impressed with this book as I expected to be, given DiCamillo's reputation, it's still a very entertaining read and a good early chapter book for kids. The illustrations are bright and shiny and boisterous and fit the story perfectly!
