really liked it
bookshelves: picture-book, schneider-award-winners
Read in January, 2010

The story told in free verse with vibrant paintings as illustrations depicts the life of jazz guitarist Django who was injured in a fire. Despite the predictions that he would never play again, Django develops a two fingered approach and returns as a world-class musician. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is extremely condensed. Though I wanted to see the story developed a little more, it still prominently featured the theme of hope. Winner of the 2010 ALA Schneider Family Award for portraying the story of a person with a disability.
