This book shares a lot of elements with The Postman Always Rings Twice, but is incomparably better. It's not a perfect book: Cain just can't write a believable romance, and the ending in particular is pretty out there. But the plot as a whole holds together well, and there are a number of scenes that are laugh-out-loud hilarious.
