Great story... very deep and sad, although I did not cry. The story of 3 women in 3 generations each who had suffered an incredible but different loss and how similarly they shut themselves down in order to survive. They discover that their coping technique has not only impeded their happiness, but has hurt the ones they love the most. By spending the summer together, each discovers that by dealing with their past, not only helps them in their own life, but helps the other women as well. By discovering who you are, allows you to put the past where it belongs and enables you to deal with the present and the other people in your life.

Denise What a deep book. I was surprised that I was not crying through most of it. A story about 3 generations of women who have to come to terms with their pasts in order for them to move on with their futures. All three women, each having experienced their own trauma and struggle have all closed themselves off to their loved ones.

While the women are all described as controlling they show remarkable restraint in not interferring with each others struggle and letting the women find their own way. The men are portrayed as patient good people who stay remarkably loyal to their women.
