Geena is a skater girl in high school who works at an espresso stand (called Triple Shot Bettys) with her friend Amber. She's got an amazing boyfriend named Ben, but she is still getting used to that whole idea, plus figuring out how to retain her independence and other friendships at the same time.
One day her English teacher does not show up because she has broken her hip. Her replacement is a handsome, young teacher who is interested in Kerouac and the beat poets rather than Moby Dick and other classics. After that it is a descent into a Cyrano de Bergerac type situation when Amber decides that she has to date Mr. Sands.
Complications ensue - especially when Sophie de Luca, a total fashion plate whose family is good friends with Ben's, moves back into town and starts putting the moves on Ben.
