My absolute, all-time, without reservation, favourite book when I was a kid. I did not own it then, but would take it out of the library at literally EVERY opportunity -- which were aplenty.

I acquired my very own copy in adulthood after telling a friend's mom about my obsession, never thinking it was still available in print. She was a kindergarten teacher, remembered, and one day months later got her hands on a mint condition copy at the local thrift store. Bless you, Jana's mom!

In re-reading the book as an adult it doesn't really surprise me that it resonated for me. A Spanish bull-fighting bull who goes against the grain, does his own thing, follows his own bliss. How could I have known at such a young age...?
