Charming, funny and sad memoir of a chaotic childhood that somehow manages to show generous compassion for parents we'd categorize as neglectful at best, abusive at worst. Brilliance and madness are closely linked, are they not?

I'm amazed at the author's ability to share her life story with humour tinged, not with bitterness, but with tenderness.

In the end I feel it's a story of redemption. Of a child now a woman who comes to accept both her mother and her father on their own terms. That while her childhood held dangers, there were also moments of brilliance and access to a wide and unlimiting way to see the world.

Couldn't put it down.
