This book is fun! I haven't seen the movie (or hardly any Bond movies, or hardly any movie in general for that matter) so it was a fresh story. Dr. No is creepy and James Bond is awesome. But you knew that.
Things that surprised me - 1. James Bond is not as slutty in the book as he is in movies. He didn't sleep with the girl until the very last page. 2. James Bond feels bad when he kills thugs. awwww
... morals. Nice. It's interesting to have a line on his thought process, which you don't get in a movie.
3. So all of Dr. No's minions are Chinese. This strikes me as really stupid. The book takes place in Jamaica (few Chinese). So every time Bond meets a Chinese person, he knows immediately that they are an agent of the enemy. Could one be less subtle? I imagine if I wanted to take over the world, and hatched a dastardly plan to do it, I'd make sure my agents weren't all wearing the same uniform. Not that I'm planning anything.
