Read from January 19 to March 22, 2010

Virginia Woolf wrote to her brother Thoby in 1901: "I want to read myself blue in the nose."

By the end of Hermione Lee's 700+ page biography I did feel a little blue in the nose, but it was well worth it. Comprehensive and consistently focused on the process of writing for Virginia Woolf (as opposed to her social relations or psychological struggles), this biography inspires the reader to revisit Woolf's books. I'm reading To the Lighthouse next.
