bookshelves: 100-books-in-2010, 52-books-in-2012
Read from January 17 to 27, 2010

This book started out a little slow, mostly just because I had to get used to the strange names, countries, cities, terms, etc. But once I stopped having to flip back and forth to the map, and once Po appeared (can I get a team Po!?), the book really picked up. Completely interesting and unique story; I loved the strong female figure of Katsa. As a perpetual series reader, it was refreshing to read a book that had a proper ending (not nice and tidy, but with real flaws and difficulties to overcome), without leaving a cliff hanger till the next book. Definitely looking forward to reading Fire and Bitterblue when it's finished!

2/18/2012 - I just re-read this again in preparation for Bitterblue and loved it as much as the first time! I did, however, notice the lack of sophistication in the writing that I missed the first time (likely because I was so wrapped up in the story)...just grammar and sentence structure errors that were a little annoying when I focused on them. But overall still a fantastic book!
