** spoiler alert ** This first-time novelist tackled a big project: the life of Frank Lloyd Wright with a primary focus on his love affair with Mamah Cheney. I loved the telling of the story! Mamah was married, as was FLW, but their relationship flourished despite the obstacles: each had children, they were separated for long periods of time, and early 1900's society frowned on what they perceived to be immoral behavior. Their loving relationship persisted only to end tragically in 1914 at Taliesin, the Wisconsin retreat built by FLW.
The writing is flowing and beautiful, especially in the depiction, in heartbreaking detail, of the guilt and anguish Mamah felt at leaving her young children.
I think this would be an excellent choice for book clubs and should elicit many disparate opinions.
