This is such a disturbing but fascinating read. The parents of the author are horrible, disgusting people. Their selfishness and total disregard for their children is astounding.

It's amazing 3/4 of their kids grew up to be productive members of society, given the abuse they went through.

Their kids should have been taken away and they should have been sterilized. It's obvious they didn't want kids to interfere in their own lives.

I find it unfortunate that the author is still in contact with her still-living mother. I understand relationships are complicated, but after all that she and her siblings went through, I would have thought she'd abandoned her, like her mother disregarded her when she was growing up.

This is a difficult read but so good I have to recommend it. Just skip over the parts where they throw the cat out of the moving car, drown the kittens, and other animal abuses. The parents don't care for their kids, so why should they care for their animals?
