Read from February 28 to March 02, 2010

This is a fascinating story of a family that reknits itself after the passing of the patriarch. Meredith and Nina grew up believing their mother hated them. She was never affectionate, never spoke to them about herself or even about themselves. But when their father dies, they honor his last wish, to get their mother to tell them the fairy tale, the complete version. The girls had grown up on a fairy tale story of Russia, the only thing their mother shared. But it wasn't a fairy tale and in the telling comes truths they could never have imagined. The story is well told, the characters fully formed and the twists and turns are plausible and sad, frightening and redemptive.

Bark's Book Nonsense I assumed this was standard chick lit but your review has made it sound much more interesting to me. I have this in my audiobook pile and will have to give it a listen.

Jodi Definitely not chick lit! Way above standard fare. Seriously considering upping my rating to 5 stars.
