A quote from Agatha Christie on the back of the book claims that she believes this is one of her best books. Interestingly, it does not feature either Poirot or Marple.

Oddly the story has a similar feel to Ordeal by Innocence, which I just recently read, because of the fact that it involves a family that is sure of a murderer in their mix, and afraid to know who it is. Once again, Christie weaves an intricate tale, and I was sure several times throughout the read that I knew who the killer was. Then she would manipulate me in such a way as I was sure it was not that person. She is really quite a master of twisting your deductions without being blunt, and I am sure this is why her stories are still beloved today.
