Corrina's review
King, Queen, Knave (Penguin Modern Classics) by Vladimir Nabokov
I have read this once a year since, well, let's just say, the Reagan era... Nabokov is simply the master. This book will send you to your Funk and Wagnalls, but you know that these obscure words are the only ones up to the task of describing that particular Nabokovian world. He torments his characters relentlessly, and hilariously, and believe me, there is no happy ending. I attribute my generally dark view of things in part to this book.
As Nabokov would no doubt say: True dat. KQK is one of the best books I've ever read too. For those of you who don't have the pleasure of knowing Corrina, any book that could turn her into the masterpiece of cynical, lifted-eyebrow nihilism that she is today, is a powerful book indeed. Of course, growing up in Mendocino helps too. This is a great book indeed.
