it was amazing

I hadn't heard of this book before, but it was the one selected for my bookclub, and now I'm glad I had the chance to read it. It was a very well-written, character driven book and I was really wrapped up in the story. I really fell in love with many of the characters, and it made me think about segregation and brought tears to my eyes several times! I do have mixed feelings about the ending, but she probably left it in the right place. Oh- and she took some liberties with time, which I noticed as I read, but she acknowledges that in the end. What I found really interesting is that she grew up with a black maid in Mississipi, so even though the book is fiction- it had a lot of influence on what she wrote. This is her first novel, but I would definitely pick up another book she authored in the future.
