This was a breath of fresh air! Lightly original (meaning the ancestry was obvious, but it was still used in a very nice and interesting way), subtly funny and a breezy read. Yes, the writing itself is bland, but fits the novel well enough. It's not one where the style of the writing needs to take precedence over the story. In fact, since the writing is easily ignored, the story takes full precedence and it makes for one very entertaining read.

Sure, the first 60 pages are pure chick-lit, but as soon as Chapter 5 rolls around, the fashion name-dropping is dropped, the rom-com subplot takes on its appropriate form (namely one analogous to Christopher Moore's Bloodthirsty Fiends) and the vampire exploration begins.

This is not a serious text in any guise. This is meant to make you laugh, to provide a little idea as to what vampires in the fashion industry would mean to the world (or MEANS to the world, wink wink)and pulls it off really well. Yes, it's set up for a sequel, but I will be one of those ready to read the next book when it's published. Highly recommended to those vampire freaks who don't mind a bit of humour with their bloodsucking.
