This is my favorite book. This will always be my favorite book, no matter what else comes along, and regardless of the fact that Gaiman's more recent work is more technically proficient and more cleanly plotted. I can't lie and say that Neverwhere is a masterwork. I can't even really call it a Great Novel. It's just a great story with insane, unique characters, and I think that's what makes it stick in my mind.

I won't go into any details about the plot, because that's what a book synopsis is for. But it contains some of the greatest villains I've ever encountered in a story and some really bizarre settings. But as strange and outlandish as it may seem when you're reading it, you get to the end and kind of start eying sewer grates funny and wondering what would happen if you crawled down into one.

Then you wake up one morning and realize that you're keeping rats as pets and it's all kind of downhill from there. But read it anyway, it's awesome.
