One of my coworkers at the library handed me this book today at work and said that I just had to read it--did I have just a little time to spare to fit it in?

Let me just say that I was caught off guard with how beautifully moving this book was when I read it right there at a public service desk. Through the last 5 or 6 spreads of pages, tears were welling in my eyes. A flood of emotions surged within my mind and chest that I felt I couldn't hold back. I lost it on the last two pages especially. I felt like it was a powerful glimpse into something I've pondered on often in my own life--my dog and me.

Even now, hours later, writing this, I'm about to start crying again. The story and the art move me just thinking about it without it physically being here. It is emblazoned on my mind. It reminds me of my own dog and how much she meant to me as a friend for 15 years of my life. She was there with me (or waiting for me) through turbulent teenage years, then early adulthood, and even...more

Nophoto-m-25x33 What a moving comment, Dustin. Thank you for the recommendation. I am going to look for it at the public library. Sounds like Adina may like it as well.

You capture in your comments (and it sounds like the book captures this as well) the unconditional love of these animals that come into our lives. Through all the turbulence we human beings mostly inflict upon ourselves, they are there to remind us that simple joy is never too far away.

Thank you for baring yourself in this touching way.

149232 Is it possible that animals like dogs are the only ones who have fully captured the concept of unconditional love? That may just be the case.

I like your terminology: "simple joy." That's what I aim to find more of in life. Nothing convolute. Nothing you have to explain. It just is. You feel it. You know it.
