This is the first book of the "Secret Series" and we have found it a good fun book to read. The authorial intrusion is sometimes a bit annoying, but mostly he's very funny. He keeps telling the reader to stop reading, how scared he is getting writing the book etc. It's good read for children age 7 or up. Though, Eli insists that some 5 and 6 year olds can handle it.

The story revolves around an 11 or 12 year old girl named Cassandra, but goes by Cass. She's a survivalist who gets caught up in...a secret...with her friend Max-Ernest. He's socially challenged and doesn't have many friends, but the two seem to make a good pair.
