2.25/5

when i read about this book, i was immediately intrigued:

a lonely girl who's living with her single father, an apothecary. together they tend all the gardens but one, --the poison garden-- which jessamine is not allowed to enter. then one day, a strange new boy, weed, barges into their lives. he seems to know a great deal about plants. just as both weed & jessamine find themselves falling in love with each other, she falls ill. did someone poison her? but most importantly: can jessamine be saved? or is it already too late?

The writing style takes some time getting used to. it quite honestly didn't meet any of my expectations, but i may continue the series, just to see how it ends.

do these 2.25 stars actually even belong to maryrose wood, i wonder? The poison diaries, wasn't even her idea. it was originally written by the duchess of northumberland in 2006.

just look at these lovelies from the picture book
