This book made my heart hurt. It was such a good read. Anytime you have a school shooting, it is a hard topic to deal with; Picoult takes that and turns in on it's ear.

Instead of the book being about how sad the school shooting is (she does address that, but more importantly...), she focuses the book on the shooter - on his life before the breakdown. She focuses on how he was bullied and no one stepped up for him, not his parents, not his teachers, not his friends...not one single person.

Anyone involved in education should take a long hard look at this book and consider the impact that our collective actions have.
Students should take away from this book the importance of our interconnectedness and how kindness can make a difference.
