It's basically love at first site for Lauren when she meets Nick; a very charming and charismatic engineer--or so she thinks. But after spending an amazing few days together, Nick pretty much blows her off and she soon discovers Nick isn't the person that he let her believe he is. Not only is he a rich and powerful multi-millionaire but he's her new boss. When Nick wants a casual affair, Lauren stands her ground to keep him from hurting her again but that doesn't stop Nick from trying to persuade her to his way of thinking.
And Nick isn't the only one who has kept secrets. Lauren has made a promise to Phillip, a distant relative and president of the company that is Nick's biggest rival. Phillip believes there is a traitor within his company that is selling information to Nick's company and wants Lauren to listen out for a few key names at her new job to help find the mole. Lauren doesn't want the task but her father needs the financial help she can provide with this job. And while Lauren never betrays Nick, the stuff really hits the fan when he discovers the real reason Lauren applied for a job with his company.

It was better than what I thought it would be. It doesn't have the depth as a usual McNaught novel--or the length; it's quite short. It was hard to relate at times with Lauren because she was so naive but I found it believable that a a 22 year-old farm girl from Missouri, new to a big city, would be so smitten with an older and powerful man who lavishes attention on her.
It's also quite politically-incorrect, as you wouldn't see a man now-a-days in a position of power like Nick, lay on such blatant sexual harassment within the work place.
And I was taken out of the story a few times with description of obvious 1980's clothing but at least it also provided a little chuckle. I never got bored with this one.
