Macy is a good high school student who always does the right thing. She studies for her SATs, spends time with her mother, dates one of the most focused, straight-laced guys around, and secures a job at the public library for the summer. Macy becomes undone when her boyfriend, Jason, goes to Brain Camp and sends an e-mail saying that he wants to take a break so he can focus on his studies over the summer. Macy, who was filling in for him at the public library while he was away, finds the job extremely boring, and the two girls who work the help desk with Macy don't make the job any easier to bear. Macy's summer turns around when she begins helping out a local catering company called Wish where she meets a group of friends who turn her life around. Macy meets Wes, and it is through his friendship that Macy learns that life doesn't always happen the way you had planned, but it is the unexpected that creates memories and will make a difference in the long run. Again, Dessen does not disappoint - her books are filled with rich, well developed characters - ones in which you can relate.
